Lician, counsellor in Sittingbourne, Sidcup and Online

I have worked with vulnerable children and young people for an extended period, and my passion for helping others navigate life's challenges inspired me to pursue a career in counselling. Therapeutic Approaches
  • Integrative therapy: a holistic approach that combines concepts and techniques from various therapeutic schools of thought, tailored to the individual needs of each client.

  • Mindfulness-based therapy (MBCT): an adapted form of cognitive therapy that integrates mindfulness practices, such as present moment awareness, meditation, and breathing exercises. It is intended to treat depression and merges cognitive behavioural with mindfulness strategies to individuals in managing their thoughts and emotions.

  • Psychodynamic therapy: a type of talk therapy that emphasises understanding of how a person’s unconscious thoughts, emotions, and past experiences influence their present behaviour. By gaining this deeper insight and self-awareness, individuals can create coping strategies and reach therapeutic objectives like enhancing relationships and making more effective choices.

  • Person-Centred Therapy: a form of talk therapy that prioritises establishing a supportive and accepting atmosphere for clients. This method highlights the importance of understanding and embracing clients’ emotions and experiences from their unique viewpoints.

  • Multicultural therapy: a type of talk therapy that focuses on the issues faced by clients whose race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, income level, disability status, or other social factors differ from those of the majority or the dominant social group.

  • Relational therapy: a therapeutic method that highlights the significance of mutually fulfilling relationships for emotional health. It operates on the premise that for individuals to flourish emotionally and mentally, they need to maintain stable and satisfying connections with others.

My Approach

I am an integrative therapist, which means I combine several different therapeutic approaches. As we are all unique with our own challenges, I offer a tailored approach to your specific situation, which can also encompass aspects such as culture, spirituality, or any part of your life that is important to you.

First Session

Many people feel anxious and apprehensive before their first session. I understand it can be daunting to seek help, so I will ensure you feel at ease. You don’t need to prepare or do anything before the session; just come as you are, and we will discuss what is happening in your life. You can share as little or as much as you wish at this stage.

Am I the right therapist for you?

We will discuss your needs, and if I possess the right skills and experience to assist with your issue, we can agree to continue together. If I cannot help you, I will signpost or refer you to a more suitable therapist or service.

The nature of our relationship and trust are two very important factors in how successful therapy can be, so pay attention to how comfortable you feel and whether you can envision trusting me.

Going Forward

If you would like to proceed to the next stage, we will arrange subsequent sessions, which are usually on the same day and time each week. I can sometimes accommodate a degree of flexibility around this by prior arrangement

How can counselling help you?

Life presents numerous challenges, and at times we may need support to navigate through them. Counselling can provide a safe space for you to express your feelings and discuss your problems with someone who listens with empathy and without judgment. Together, we can work to enhance your understanding of your difficulties and empower you to make healthier choices in the future.

I have a strong interest and experience of working with underrepresented groups, particularly male and elderly clients, who have traditionally been hesitant to seek therapy.

I provide inclusive counselling services via telephone, online, and in person, ensuring accessibility for everyone.

I am passionate about helping clients facing depression, anxiety, and trauma, and I have experience and completed extensive training in these areas.

Difference & Inclusion

Have you felt “different” throughout your life? Do you often feel like you don’t quite fit in? You may look different, sound different, behave in ways that set you apart, have a unique sense of style, think differently or perceive the world in an unconventional manner.

Perhaps you have been ostracised, ignored, humiliated or even abused. You may have been given derogatory labels like weird, strange, peculiar, misfit, odd or felt like an outsider.

Diversity image

Whether your difference stems from your social class, ethnicity or religion or your brain processes the world in a unique way; you may possess a distinctive fashion sense or carry an intangible quality that others can’t quite place.

Your sexual orientation may not conform to traditional norms, or you may face challenges simply because you were born different. If any of this resonates with you, I want you to know I hear you.

You may have put considerable effort into fitting into societal expectations and seeking acceptance and approval from others. If you recognise yourself in any of these situations I would love to connect with you.

Location

I work from comfortable and fully accessible counselling rooms in Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital, Bell Road, Sittingbourne ME10 4DT and at Woodside Wellness, 3B Woodside Road, Sidcup, DA15 7JF. I also offer telephone and online sessions nationally via Teams and Google Meet.

Fees

Sessions are 50 minutes long, usually on a weekly basis and cost £50 per session. Extended 75-minute sessions are available on request at £70 per session.

I offer limited concessions for those on low income. I offer a free 15 minute initial introductory call.

I require 48 hours notice face to face cancellations and 24 hours if you are being seen over the telephone and/or online.
